Met zijn succesvolle carrière en omstreden imago is rapper Boef een opvallende verschijning in Nederland.
Hij begon ooit als treitervlogger en wist zich te ontwikkelen tot een van de meest beluisterde rappers van het land.
Zijn prestaties worden echter niet overal even enthousiast ontvangen vanwege zijn controversiële optredens en reputatie in de media.
Boef claimt als eerste Nederlandse artiest ooit 100 gouden of platina platen te hebben behaald, maar voelt zich onderbelicht in de media:
“Ik ben de eerste Nederlandse artiest slash rapper die ooit honderd gouden of platina platen heeft behaald, wat een hele hele hele zieke mijlpaal is…”
Boef expressed his frustration about the lack of media attention: “And then the Dutch media is completely silent about it. They don’t care at all. Of course, they don’t write about how successful I am.”
“If I were a white Dutch artist, the media would be all over it and every talk show would be talking about me.”
“But when it’s about Boef: shh. But if Boef runs a red light… Boef, runs a red light and makes it very dangerous… Aaagh.”
Boef has critiqued the Dutch media before. Last month, there was said to be a fight after one of his performances, which was widely reported in the press.
Boef heeft aangegeven dat de media zijn naam onterecht aan iets heeft gekoppeld, zeggende: “De media moet het natuurlijk weer framen met mijn naam in de titel en het doen lijken alsof het levensgevaarlijk was.”
